Welcome to The Great Tew Estate website.
Located a little over an hour from London, the Great Tew Estate encapsulates much of what might be considered the archetypal English Country Estate. Spring lambs playing in rolling grassland, oak woods with a carpet of bluebells, chocolate box thatch cottages... the Great Tew Estate is all this and much more.
Whilst the village is often described as one of the prettiest villages in England, Great Tew remains cloaked in its long history, from its Roman origins, through the romance of the Civil War to its ownership by one of the pre-eminent industrial revolution families. However, in the new Millennium, the Estate also represents a modern image of a diverse land-orientated business with a contemporary approach and an exciting strategic plan for the future.
This website aims to give you some of this historical background whilst introducing the various businesses that now comprise the Great Tew Estate.

News
Much has been happening on the Great Tew Estate over the last five years, and in particular over the last year, and it was suggested I might comment on some of these changes.
Most notably perhaps is the development of our new farm site adjacent to the ironstone quarry on the entrance to the village. This has been planned for some time as a replacement for the original Estate farm located at Court Farm. Quarry Farm, as it will be known, provides us with a state of the art crop handling, processing and storage facility as well as other farm multi-purpose space. We plan to start tree planting and landscaping the finished development in the autumn after which our attention will turn to the proposed affordable housing scheme to be located on the vacated Court Farm site.
Another important step for us is our recent application to create what I believe to be North Oxfordshire’s largest agri-environmental scheme across the Estate. We will be entering all of our land into an Estate wide ELS (Entry Level Scheme) and HLS (Higher Level Scheme) which will include, amongst other things, further benefits for the horse trials with a gradual re-building of the Park Wall. This has been an exciting step for us as we feel comfortable that environmental protection can now rest comfortably with best modern farming practices.
On a day-to-day basis much work continues on our property portfolio and in other areas of our diversified Estate life. The Estate Office is the hub of all such works and if there are any questions or ideas you might wish to share with us do get in touch. |
