The Great Tew Ironstone Quarry
The quarry originates back to the early 17th Century when stone was extracted from the quarry to supply the original cottages and house of Great Tew and other surrounding villages.
The quarry itself was fully re-opened in the summer of 2000 to meet growing demand from architects, builders and planners for a consistent supply of good quality ironstone block, to use both in Great Tew but also across the rest of the country.
|
From the South of Oxford to the North of Lincolnshire there are many locations where Great Tew ironstone has been used. Some of its uses has centred on the provision of building stone for the large house building companies while it has also been used extensively for renovation work on churches, National Trust properties and other locations where conservation grade ironstone was required.
Ironstone block is used primarily as a building and walling stone, a full range of architectural details, flooring and rockery stone.
